Mother's Day

When God Created Mothers...

When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day and it was "overtime" when an angel appeared and said. "You're taking a lot of time on this one."

And God said, "Have you read the specs on this order?"

She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts...all replaceable.

Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up.

And have a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair.

And six pairs of hands."

The angel shook his head slowly and said. "Six pairs of hands.... no way."

"It's not the hands that are causing me problems," God remarked, "it's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have."

"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel. God nodded. "One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, 'What are you kids doing in there?' when she already knows.

Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say.

'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word."

"God," said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "Get some rest tomorrow...."

"I can't," said God, "I'm so close to creating something really special. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick...can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger...and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower."

The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. "It's too soft," the angel sighed. "But tough!" said God excitedly. "Can you imagine what this mother can do or endure." "Can it think?" "Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise," said the Creator.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran his finger across the cheek. "There's a leak," the angel pronounced. "I told You that You were trying to put too much into this model." "It's not a leak," said the Lord, "It's a tear." "What's it for?"

"It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride."

There is something so special about Mothers

We have all kinds of mothers:

There are mothers with children at home

  • Mothers with children who are all grown up
  • Mothers with children who have gone home to heaven
  • Mothers in law
  • Almost mothers (pregnant)
  • Little girls who will one day be mothers
  • Mothers who still have mothers
  • Mothers whose mothers are with God now
  • Single mothers and married mothers

Do you know what is common among all mothers? EVERYBODY LOVES THEIR MOMMA, EVERYBODY LOVES THEIR MOM

12 things Mothers should know

1. Your body produced a Human Being by God’s grace

2. You Are a Good Mom

3. You Rock Without Sleep

4. You’ve Never Appreciated Your Friends and Family More

5. You Don’t Have to Listen to Every Opinion, but listen to God’s.

6. You’ll Never Stop Worrying so trust God to help

7. God gave you Mommy Instincts

8. You Care More Than Anyone, sometimes you just want to be alone with your baby. That’s great.

9. You Are Allowed to Feel Overwhelmed, try to get some sleep, eat well and eat some chocolate.

10. You Need a Break sometimes, a chance to breathe. That’s OK

11. You Can’t Protect Them From Everything, so trust God

12. You will always be a mother no matter how old your children are so continue to be a mother –that’s what you are. The greatest.

There are 2 things on my heart to tell mothers.

Embrace that you are a Person

You are more than a mother, you are many things, to many people but first you are YOU, made in the image of God, you are a person. You are uniquely YOU and You are the only YOU around. So embrace that you are made by God, loved and cared for by God as a person.

You will find your wholeness in Christ so bring yourself to Jesus first and find the wholeness that you want, need and can have in Jesus. If you put your faith in Christ and believe in Him, in His death and resurrection for you. He will not only save you and give you eternal life in heaven but He will also make you whole and give you a new life

 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

From the Bible a Jesus story that leads to my second point:

Matthew 19:13-15 (NIV)

13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.

14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.

Embrace Motherhood

God not only made you in His image but God made you special to be the mother you are. Somehow you have instincts, intuition that men/fathers do not have. A mother’s tenderness toward her children and caring of them is unique and we as fathers and men are not equipped like mothers.

EMBRACE YOU ARE A MOTHER AND BE THE MOTHER GOD WANTS YOU TO BE.

When Marilyn and I were raising our 3 children we agreed early on; George, you be the dad and Marilyn you be the mom. Why?    Because I couldn’t be her, I could try but it was foreign to me. So I embraced fatherhood and Marilyn embraced motherhood. Now I embrace Papahood and Marilyn embraces grammahood

**Moms, mothers, bring your children to Jesus**

13 Then people (I dare say the majority who brought their children that day to Jesus were MOTHERS) brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.

Wouldn’t you have loved to see Jesus place His hand on your child and bless them and pray for them. To see the Master beckon them to come and then just touch them, and to save them, and protect them and be their loving God. You can do that because God is everywhere, mothers -so bring your children to Jesus.

I would like to read a poem as a tribute to the mothers who have gone on to heaven because many of us here would long to see them again and feel their gentle touch.

Rock Me to Sleep         By Elizabeth Akers Allen

Backward, turn backward, O Time, in your flight,

Make me a child again just for tonight!

Mother, come back from the echoless shore,

Take me again to your heart as of yore;

Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care,

Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair;

Over my slumbers your loving watch keep;—

Rock me to sleep, mother, – rock me to sleep!

Over my heart, in the days that are flown,

No love like mother-love ever has shone;

No other love abides and endures,—

Faithful, unselfish, and patient like yours:

None like a mother can charm away pain

From the sick soul and the world-weary brain.

Slumber’s soft calms o’er my heavy lids creep;—

Rock me to sleep, mother, – rock me to sleep!

To all the mothers here we are so grateful for you and thank you.

May God’s richest blessing be upon you.
