Weariness

John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

(Spanish)                                   an early help in trouble

Weariness has many layers or tiers or degrees of severity.

The trouble of Weariness, 3rd degree -I’m weary of all this trouble

Weariness to the 2nd degree is the trouble of ‘I am way too tired’,

1st degree of Weariness is the trouble of ‘I can’t go on.’

The fellow with 2nd degree weariness said ‘I am too tired and it can’t get any worse and the 1st degree weary person said ‘oh yes it can get worse.’

Definition: Weariness: exhausted in strength,

                              exhausted in endurance,

                                      exhausted in vigor

                                             lacking in freshness

Have you ever felt the trouble of weariness?

When your endurance or vigor or freshness are gone

Are you weary now, today?

Examples of people who were troubled at times with weariness

It is said that Sir Walter Scott, the great penman, rose at 4 o'clock every morning, for 48 years, spent fifteen hours a day at his desk. He averaged a book every two months, plus turned out the famous "Waverly Novels" at the rate of one a month.

It is said that the Wesleys, John and Charles, preached three sermons a day for fifty-four years, traveled 290,000 miles by horseback, and wrote more than eighty different books.

It is said that George Whitefield, the man greatly used of God in the First Great Awakening in England, preached and personally saw over 1 million people converted. It is estimated that he preached an average of forty hours a week in his ministry.

Everyone of these men, grew very weary in their work. They testified that many times they grew spiritually, physically, and mentally exhausted. Yet, every one, realized their real strength, to go on, came not in and of themselves, by it was of a Supernatural Supply.

The answer, the remedy for weariness is supernatural,

It’s out of this world

Have you ever felt the trouble of weariness?

Are you weary now, this weariness strikes us all, at different times & in different ways

Isaiah offers words of refreshment to those who are weary, lacking endurance, vigor or freshness. Specifically, he's addressing the children of Israel, who are in Babylonian captivity. He encourages them to not distrust, and disbelieve their God, but turn to Him, and trust Him in their hour of trouble. Generally, he encourages all of us who grow tired, worn-out, and exhausted, and gives us "WORDS FOR THE WEARY!"

Isaiah 40:29-31

He (God) gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Weariness -where does it come from?

  • Overextending yourself is stretching your physical, emotional, financial, vocational and relational boundaries to the point of depletion.

  • Persistent and continual Stress can weary you and wear you down: the stress at home, in the workplace, in relationships and even in ourselves -how we think ie: if you keep thinking I’m not very good, I don’t like me, you are just down on yourself

All this stress piles up like a huge stack of dirty diapers.

Stress, as we all know, is deadly to our health. Every doctor and therapist will tell you that unresolved stress will “do you in.” Stress will wear you out and weary your soul.

Here are 3 other things that can cause weariness

  • Your List of things to do, you look at the list and you just sag

  • Unresolved sin in your life, you keep thinking about it and you know God wants you to deal with it but it just wears you out thinking about it. (God won’t give rest until you deal with it)

Jeremiah 9:5

Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.

  • Procrastination, you keep putting it off, you’re weary of yourself for delaying, procrastinating but it just won’t go away.

Here are some Bible verses to guide us in our weariness:

Matthew 11:28-29 New American Standard Bible

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, WEARY TROUBLED, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Go to God with your weariness, God invites you

This is a pattern in Scripture -God invites you to go to Him with all our troubles and exchange our troubled soul for His peace and rest

Hebrews 12:2-4 New International Version

2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

fixing our eyes on Jesus, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

-look up in troubles to Jesus, don’t look down, look up

(old hymn)

Oh soul Are you weary and troubled No light in the darkness You see

There's light for a look At the Savior, And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

Jeremiah 31:24

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”

  • You may need to de-clutter some things in your life because you are doing too much, you are too busy -too weary

  • You may need to deal with the sin in your life, confess and forsake

  • You may need to de-stress your life by letting go and letting God

-I don’t know what/who is causing your weariness, but God does because He knows your name and loves you

-I do know that in all of life’s troubles we need the spiritual reflex of prayer (going to God with our troubles) and faith (trusting God with our troubles) and Hope (believing in God’s precious promises)       (repeat)

-Go to God all who weary and troubled and He will give you rest

PRAY.
